A lucky day
January 15th
Early start ... up before 6am ... hit McD's drive thru for breakfast, some gas in the car and then on our way to Picton to catch the ferry. Took the scenic route. Again we're following the sun. Very picturesque.
When we loaded onto the ferry we got put onto the rail deck ... rail tracks right onto the deck - parked beside rail cars ... very unusual. The ride was good ... "moderate" waves. We took our Gravol before just in case ... and I'm glad, some movement once we left the shelter of the channel.
Arrived in Wellington. Took a walk about. Quite a metropolis compared to most places we've been. A real city with workers in suits!!! Had a bite to eat then napped. We headed out at 8pm to the Kaori Sactuary for a night walk to hunt for the elusive kiwi. Not only did we see one just before the end of the walk but he/she came out onto the path a couple times and actually walked between my legs, rubbing up against one as it passed thru. A very rare thing indeed. We also saw a number of taurtura (sp?) ... NZ lizard like creature. It was a beautiful night for a walk amongst the trees listening to the birds under the stars.
