Another Day in Paradise
January 16th
What did today bring ...
For a change we slept in. It was late last night by the time we finished laundry after the night walk. By the time we got showered and left it was noon.
Walked down to the Railway Station, had some pies from a vendor, meandered along the waterfront to the Te Papa Museum. Can you believe this ... it was FREE!!! With donations greatly appreciated. It's an amazingly large musuem (as museums go), say the colossol squid caught live near Antarctica last year ... it preserved now. The museum is largely focused on the history of NZ and preservation. Is highly interactive (if you have kids). I pooped out before we could make it through all 5 floors.
By then it was happy hour so we wandered up a block or so and found a brew pub for a drink and a snack. Then wandered back into the central shopping area to pick up the Cable Car for a ride up the hill and a wander through the Botanical Garden and back to the hotel.
We then grabbed a coat and headed out to Mt. Victoria lookout for a 360 degree view of the city. Wellington is quite spread, we didn't have any idea it was so large. With the hills it's quite deceiving.
Then back down the hill parked in what appeared to be the Friday night happening area and took a wander looking for dinner. We found this Chinese restaurant and man was the food good - probably some of the best I've ever had.
Back at the hotel now, it's after 11pm. A quick internet stop and to bed. Tomorrow morning we're off again - next stop is Rorotura.
