Whew ... what a weekend !!!

First a correction to the prior blog .... on Friday we saw the Admiralty Arch not the Marble Arch plus I forgot to mention our walk about in the morning when we first arrived ... ended up at Harrod's !!! Only bought a few trinkets - couldn't afford anything else !!! Saturday was jammed packed. After breakfast at a street cafe we "hopped on" the open top double decker tour bus for a drive around th city. Our first jump off was St. Paul's Cathedral. We climbed ALL the way to the top. 143 steps to the Whispering Gallery, another 119 to the Stone Gallery, then another 154 steps to the Golden (?) Gallery. Talk about hot and sweaty. The climb wasn't too bad all things considered. I actually found the way down to be nauseating. Too many circular stairwells with narrow steps required one to be looking down the entire time .... not a good thing for someone who get's sick with circular motion!!! After recouping with a sandwich and water at the cafe in the crypt we hopped back onto the bus for a drive down to the Tower Bridge and Tower of London. Toured both, very interesting. Then hopped onto a boat for a cruise down the Thames to Westminster Abbey / London Eye. Too late in the day to do these so we'll save them for tomorrow. We hopped back onto the bus for a ride back to our hotel. Unfortunately the bus stopped in the middle of the route, according to the stop numbers, rather than the last stop number, which we were near, so we had to find our own way back. Poor Dave, I was hot, grumpy & hungry and not happy about spending more money for transport seeing as we'd already paid but what do you do. We took the tube down to Leicester Square Station, stopped to eat at the first pub we saw, then headed back to the hotel, a hot shower, and our cool bed. Sunday was just as busy. We started early - I was awake at 6am so we got up and going. Today was a quiet start to a very crowded afternon. We took the tube then strolled up the street to the Horse Guards, past the parliament buildings and #10 Downing Street. Saw the changing of the guards their, then walked through St. James Park to Buckingham Palace for the changing of the guards. Talk about a zoo. A lot of waiting for not a lot to see. From there down by Westminster Abbey, Big Ben and across the bridge to the London Eye. Relaxed in the park for a bit with some ice cream, then back onto the tube to meet up with my friend Marjorie (from Vancouver) at the Grenadier Pub for dinner. A lovely end to the day. It's now Monday and we're killing time before we head to the airport for our flight to Corfu. Slept until 10:45am ... guess a little jet lag and over activity has caught up to us. The weather has been glorious. I managed to get some colour yesterday. It's been great all around. Time to go, my internet time is about up. Until next time, Cheers!
