Stand in line for 6.5 hours waiting to get the dang shot, that's how.
Monday was a totally wasted day. Here I am thinking "sure I'll have to wait, couple hours tops" still have time to do my normal errands and appointments ... No such thing. First it takes 20 minutes to turn off the main road to get into the shopping area where the clinic is, I didn't bother hunting for close parking - I pulled into the first spot on the road. Dave came with me, in a separate vehicle, the line is HUGE, with limited parking he left to make a job site appointment. An hour later my massage therapist office calls to cancel my 12:30pm appointment. I'm bummed but at least that will give me some more leeway. I call to change my 11am orthotic appointment to 1:30pm ... boy was I optimistic.
12noon and we're a past the halfway point. I call Dave and convince him to come back to join me to get the shots. Thankfully there's a Boston Pizza in the strip mall so shortly after Dave arrives he heads to acquire sustenance. We share our pizza with the Salazar's and Susannah our line buddies. Luckily Kate Salazar works at the Royal LePage realty office in the strip mall and we make a couple of bathroom pitstops (close & warm) instead of trekking back a couple of blocks to the Tim Hortons (as I did when the line was still long).
We finally make it to the clinic door ... it's about 2:50pm. Once we're in it's quick. A couple of forms, a "talk" and the shots. We're out the door and back at the vehicle by 3:15pm. I make a quick call to my other massage therapist and luck out she has an opening. I rush over, enjoy a well deserved massage after all that standing in 5 degree weather, followed by a soak in a hot tub when I return home.
Talk about a tiring day of nothing!
At least now we're protected, hopefully. One shot in each arm (seasonal & H1N1).
Here's hoping I'm good as I head through some more American airports next week.
