Where are we at now ...

January 8th we headed out from Christchurch on our self-drive. We've really been lucky with the weather. Went inland and back out to Dunedin, the longer route, but very scenic. January 9th we again followed the scenic route and after a slight double back, that's what happens when I close my eyes for a short nap, Dave missed the marker. We get turned around and continue south. A few stops along the way, photos will come (eventually), we end up at South Slope ... the southern most point on the island. It's later than anticipated so now we have to boogie to get to our next destination and must abandon the scenic tour and go for the shortest, quickest route. Thankfully the GPS is awesome. Dave refers to her as Daisy May and she doesn't like it when we deviate from her set route! We arrive in Te Anu shortly after 10pm. The good thing is with it being summer it's still not dark out yet. The lucky thing is the motel operators haven't gone to bed yet ... seems their reception closed at 8pm but no one told me !!! January 10th another early start. Today we drive out to Milford Sound for a cruise. The drive in magnificent. The landscape definitely gives feelings of BC rainforest, mixed with Okanagan hills and lakes. The lakes here are HUGE ! We make pit stops along the way back as there's only one route in. Then head off back the other side of the mountains as we make our way to Queenstown. January 11th. A lie in today. It's Dave's birthday and we're taking it easy this morning. This afternoon we're going white water rafting on the Shotover River. Should be fun but the water's going to be cold. We'll be here tonight as well before heading off tomorrow to our next destination.
