Return to England
And now for my rant about the bloody French !!!
Just a warning ... if you can help it DO NOT travel through Charles de Gaulle airport.
As I wrote previously on our way out to Cairo the French make you do security again. Well we were prepared for that, but little did we realize how disorganized they really could be.
Upon landing we're out on a tarmac somewhere away from the terminal and they unload and bus us back to the terminal. That would be fine except they only sent out ONE bus ... geez how were they planning on moving 300 plus passengers ?!? We make it back to the terminal, go through a passport check as we leave the bus, walk through and around the corridors and stairs out to another bus point for the shuttle to the other terminal. The shuttles only run in one direction so we have to go around the entire airport as our terminal is one behind from where we are. Off the bus, back up stairs and through corridors, to the security line. Only one line which is fine but it is now 6:50am and our flight departs at 7:45am. The line is moving slowly, no cause for concern as an employee comes by and calls out a few flights and takes passengers so I figure we'll get pulled by 7:15am. Around 7:10am another employee starts moving part of the line to the other side, great we think a new line is opening .... NO we are now on the other side merging back into the same line and are now FURTHER back than we were !!! At 7:20am I'm starting to worrying and I grab the attention of another employee, the original person calling flights has been talking with two other employees at the end of the hall and is ignoring us, and point out our flight is boarding so he waves us through to the front. Through the xray, no big deal except now there's a problem because they want to confiscate our duty free liquor !!! Seems the duty free bag wasn't sealed by Cairo so they won't let us take it. All I get from the guy is a pan face and NO. Good thing it's only $40 worth - talk about a fix. Their response is you can buy more if you have time !!!
Great now I'm tired, thirsty and pissed off !!! No time to argue, we're one of the last passengers to board. At least the rest of the flight is uneventful.
We arrive back in England safe and sound. It's not so busy this time coming through immigration, in fact the "Other" line that I have to go through isn't much longer than the "EU" line. We make it back to Dave's parents by 10am.
First thing Margaret wants to do is feed us of course, but it's the last thing I want. I'm bagged. Managed only a few hours sleep on the Cairo-Paris leg. Dave and I take a nap. Five hours later and I feel much better, more like a human !!!
It's wet and cool here. Typical English winter weather - rainy and grey. The forecast isn't improving for the week. Oh well great excuse for some shopping this week!!!
