Greetings from Hurghada, Egypt
Blue for the colour of the Red Sea ... today we arrived in Hurghada a "resort" area on the Red Sea. There are many eastern europeans here in resortish type hotels on the beach. For the rest of us Hurghada is simply a stopping point travelling to/from the Sinai. Tomorrow we take the hydrafoil ferry, approx 2hrs depending on the wind/waves, across the Red Sea to the Sinai region, then busing to St. Catherines where we'll spend the night before our hike up Mount Sinai at the butt crack of the morning. I hope the sunrise is worth the lack of sleep!!!
In the past few days we've rode camels and donkeys, been through the Valley of the Kings, saw King Tut's mummy - he was VERY small, walked up and down into various tombs, survived the markets and peddlars parting with only some of our money. Dave's getting better at bartering, Marie (an Aussie on our tour) is giving lessons. The shop keepers say "she's one tough lady". So far the highest offer Dave's had is 6 million camels for me, but he says I'm priceless!!! The boy knows where his bread is buttered !!! LOL
That's it for now. I forgot to bring my diary with me so I can't give you a day by day account. We've done so much and seen so much it's hard to keep all of the pharohs, queens, gods and myths straight. Today after lunch I can tell you Dave & I swan in the Red Sea. For most on the tour it was too cold, but those Aussies are spoiled with warm water, for me it was similar to Lake Okanogan in the summer - cold but refreshing.
Until next time ... hopefully we'll have survived Mount Sinai and have a story to tell.
